Why We Recommend This
Turnips grow quickly and can provide quality forage late into the fall. Their deep tap roots break up soil compaction, increases water infiltration, and scavenges residual N in the soil resulting in improvied water quality.
Things to Watch Out For
Turnips in no-till operations leave behind large holes when winter killed which can cause uneven stand if seeds fall in. The high concentration of glucosinolates can lead to thyroid problems in young livestock if turnips are grazed for too long.
