Why We Recommend This
Sunn hemp produces the largest nodules of any summer annual legume. Sunn hemp reduced compaction concerns with its large taproot, reduces nematode populations, increases soil organic matter, and fixes N well. Sunn hemp's woody stalk provides long lasting, above-ground carbon which lets microbes feed longer. It also does well in low fertility, sandy soils and creates lots of biomass in a short period of time.
Things to Watch Out For
Sunn hemp needs a warm climate and must be planted at least 45 days ahead of the first frost. It is not a great grazer because of the woody stem. Cows will only eat the leaves. Avoid using for hay.
