Additional Information
Why We Recommend This
Sudangrass is fast growing, smothers weeds, scavenges N, reduces some nematode populations, and supplies organic matter to the soil. It suppresses weeds better and is easier to manager than sorghum-sudangrass, and like sorghum-sudangrass, it is drought and heat tolerant. Sudangrass will grow thicker roots if mowed, which can break up compaction.
Things to Watch Out For
Sudangrass can give livestock prussic acid poisoning, especially if plants are young or have been stressed. To produce standard levels of biomass, 75 to 100 lbs/ N is typically needed.
