Additional Information
Why We Recommend This
Phacelia can reduce N leaching by scavenging residual N and can outcompete weeds as a seedling. It produces lots of biomass, which can be grazed, and decomposes nicely to build soil organic matter. Its bright blue flowers attract pollinators and its deep, fibrous root system can relieve compaction.
Things to Watch Out For
Phacelia can become weedy without proper management. Phacelia will only flower when there are more than 13 hours of light and is not suitable for grazing in soils with high N content. Plant before soil temperature reaches 68 degrees.
