Additional Information
Why We Recommend This
Oats produce high quality forage and are less susceptible to insect problems, compared to other grasses. They have an allelopathic effect on weeds and roots can reach more than 6 feet, fighting erosion and compaction.
Things to Watch Out For
Oats are less winter hardy and drought tolerant compared to other small grains and require more soil moisture. Manure fertilized oats may have excessive potassium levels for dairy cows to graze.
