Why We Recommend This
Lentils are drought tolerant and can do well in most cool, well-drained soils. Like other legumes, lentils can fix N for the following crop and can be used as forage. Winter lentils are some of the few varieties that are cold hardy and able to overwinter almost anywhere in the US.
Things to Watch Out For
Lentils do not compete well with weeds and are susceptible to insects. Lentils are highly sensitive to residual herbicides. Seed hulls are fragile.
